A seasoned practitioner and experienced in business reorganization, Darrell brings his leadership skills to bear when representing parties on all sides of bankruptcy cases.

Overview

Darrell is a calming presence in his work with debtors, creditors, lenders, borrowers and financial trustees. His work as creditor counsel in large corporate cases gives him a real-world perspective on how cases are likely to resolve. He brings common sense and compassion to his work as a problem-solver for entities experiencing financial distress.

Darrell has experience in highly regulated industries such as telecommunications, oil and gas and health care law. Darrell is a contributing author to the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Health Care Insolvency Manual and is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy issues at energy law conferences.

Experience

Darrell regularly represents banks and Fortune 100 companies as creditors in Chapter 11 cases across the country.

In one recent Delaware case involving a major supplier of aviation equipment, Darrell negotiated payment in full in his representation of the Debtor's second largest customer. Equally as important as the payment, the parties were restored to a "business as usual" status despite the bankruptcy.

In a 2018 bank representation, Darrell worked cooperatively with a distressed real estate venture organizing the take-over of property management and later a successful "at market" sale for each of three multimillion dollar projects. While other projects from this venture ended up in expensive and lengthy court proceedings, Darrell's clients were able to achieve their goals outside of court, resulting in full payment for the client as well as a higher sale price for the borrower.

Recent speaking engagements include the American Public Power Association's legal and regulatory conference where Darrell spoke about bankruptcy issues to energy industry professionals.

In addition to his role as managing partner of the firm's Washington, DC office, Darrell is a longtime pro bono volunteer and organizer of the firm's work with the DC Bar Pro Bono Center, representing low-income individuals in family and child custody, housing and disability appeals cases under the Advocacy & Justice Clinic. Darrell is originally from the Boston area and is an avid Red Sox fan.
